Clawed: Colorblocked

Spring has sprung and summer is calling.  To celebrate the season, I painted my nails in a colorblock design.
First, paint your nails, except for one nail, in one color.  I used a coral from OPI. I don't know the name of it and couldn't find it on the website.  Any ideas?  Anyways, I really love this color.  It's so bright and colorful.  It looks orange in photos, but it is more of a coral color.  Let it dry.
Then paint your accent nail another color.  I used Certainly Cherry by Sally Hansen No Chip 10 Day Nail Color.  Let dry.

Then, use your first color (coral) to make a half-moon. I did a straight half-moon, but you can use binder paper reinforcements to make an actual half-moon. There are many tutorials out there to help you do that. When this is dry, slick on a top coat.

The best thing about this manicure is that you can do so much with it.  You can use any colors to complete this look.  You can do the accent design on every nail.  You can use the accent color (hot pink) to make an opposite half-moon on the other nails.  And you can do different half-moon shapes: straight, curved, or triangle.  Have fun with it!

Style Musings: No Surrender

"No retreat, baby, no surrender."- No Surrender, Bruce Springsteen
Those are perfect words to live by.  I have to say, Bruce Springsteen has songs with great lyrics.

I wanted to wear my Charming Charlie's dress.  I love this dress.  The pattern and color are perfect.  Then I threw on a purple H&M cardigan for warmth.  It's still a little chilly.

My Born flatforms add height.  My sister actually got me these earrings!  She went to Florida recently and got us all gifts.  The earrings add a little color to a mostly darker look.  And my H&M aviators are awesome, as always.
So, on Monday, I'm getting a tadpole to raise!  I need suggestions for a name, please.  I want something that isn't obvious, like Lilly or Frogger.  Thanks.

Style Musings: One Cool Chick

I'm so cool in my H&M aviator sunglasses. They're not Ray-Ban's but I love them. I love their shape.
I am finally wearing a cute dress! I love it! I love the print and the ruffle. I try to stay away from ruffles, but this works because it's not a lot. It's pretty short, but that makes it great for spring.

Nothing's really going on in my life.  Almost the end of the semester, so we're getting ready for finals.  This summer, I am working at my camp, and taking a math class for a couple weeks.  One more semester to go!  I'm really excited about that.

The shoes are my Born flatforms, and ground my girly dress.

Purple toes! Well, purple toenails. If you have purple toes, you have a problem and need help. I got a pedicure a week or so ago, and was going to get hot pink. But that's so expected. And pastels are so hot, I needed to get purple. I love them. They're so sweet. I know the polish was OPI, and I think it is Do You Lilac It?, but don't take my word on it.

Style Musings: Signs of Spring

The sun is out, the air is warm, the birds are singing. It's officially spring. About time, too.
To celebrate spring, I wore pastels and brights. A patterned Forever 21 top gave me the pastel, while a pair of bright violet Forever 21 pants contributed a bright. I think it works. The color of the pants match one of the colors in the top. The shoes ground the look.
Throw in a little 70's with the brown Born flatforms. I could wear these things forever.
To integrate the color of the flatforms, I wore a golden vintage chainlink bracelet. It was my grandmothers. It reminds me of my grandfather, who we called Pops. I remember him always wearing a chainlink necklace.

The Coveted: H&M

This weekend, I am (hopefully) going to H&M. I love the place. They offer well-constructed, chic, trendy pieces that fit a small budget. Here are some things I am coveting.
Necklace $12.95- I want this! It's so pretty. I would wear it with everything. I love the color too. So pretty for spring.
Blazer $29.95- Pastels are so hot this season, so this pink blazer is the perfect way to introduce pastel shades into your wardrobe. You can do so many types of looks: brights, pastels, and a twist on a classic. I would get so much use out of this blazer!
Blazer $34.95- I have this idea for this blazer. I want to pair this with a pair of coral jeans and a blue tee. I can also wear it with my green jeans, purple pants, and blue jeans. I could even wear it with pretty skirts and dresses. Adds a great pop of color to anything.
Top $29.95- It's not too warm yet, so I like the idea of a buttondown. This print is interesting, which makes the top special.
Dress $29.95- Ever watch Fashion Star? I love that show. It's a competition, where designers are bidded on by byers from Macy's, Saks, and H&M. Then you can actually buy the clothes. Last week, H&M bought Sarah's design. I love it. The pattern and colors are perfect. I would wear it to school or on the weekends. It looks really comfortable.
Dress $17.95- Everyone needs a floral dress. It's cute and sexy. Perfect for spring.

Clawed: Stripes

Time for a polish change! I like to do easy nail art since I don't have a very steady hand. Stripes is the answer!
First I applied a base coat (Sally Hansen Double Duty), then a coat of marigold polish (Designated Driver by Spolied).
After letting the marigold polish dry, use a black polish pen or striper to draw stripes.
After the stripes are dry, apply a top coat to seal it all in! I love that you can use any color combination! And it's really hard to mess up. If you can draw a relatively straight line, you're golden.

Style Musings: Matzah Ball

Happy Passover! Passover is my favorite holiday. I love the story, the symbolism, the food, and the four glasses of wine! I'm one of the few people who actually like gefilte fish. It's a mix of pike and whitefish all mashed up and rolled into a round-ish shape. Matzah ball soup is amazing. And if you've never had charoset, you haven't lived. Charoset is chopped apples, chopped nuts, and cinnamon, all drenched in some red wine. It's so good! It reminds us of the mud that the Jews used to build the pyramids when they were enslaved in Eygpt.

For this spring celebration, I wanted to wear something bright. I slipped on a pair of cobalt Forever 21 jeans. After some consideration, I wore a green Forever 21 top. I knew I wanted to wear a pair of floral Forever 21 flats. To bring in the pink from the flats, I wore Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in #33, a satin fresh pink. I added some bling with a pair of vintage-inspired Jennie Boston earrings and a Hebrew nameplate necklace that I got in Israel.
My Passover was so much fun. I loved being with friends and family. And I loved my outfit! Don't mind my crazy faces. You try to take good pictures of yourself after more than four glasses of wine. And don't mind the messy room. How was your Passover/Easter?

The Coveted: Ray-Ban Aviators

Ray-Ban RB3025 Aviator Large Metal Sunglasses, $195
I need sunglasses. Badly. It may not be warm out, but it sure is sunny. And squinting isn't very pretty. These are the ultimate sunglasses: aviator shape, gold tone and a black/grey lens. I wish I had $195 to blow on a pair of sunnies.

Style Musings: Never Have I Ever

Never have I ever thought I would love flatforms. Whenever I saw them, I always thought they were big and clunky. They are big and clunky, in a wonderful '70's way. I also have small feet, so I thought that flatforms would make my feet look big. But I am converted! I love them! Flatforms have the height of a heel/wedge, but the comfort of a flat. I love being able to look my family in the eye! (I'm the shortest, and the oldest child of three!)
I wore my green BDG jeans and brown Zara tee. The Zara tee has a wonderful zipper detail in the back. I threw on my velvet vintage Ralph Lauren blazer. I couldn't stop touching myself! It's so soft. I like wearing blazers in spring because my school's building is so bipolar. In some rooms, I'm sweating, but I'm freezing in others. And since it's still pretty cool outside, I need to have something to cover up with. I want warmer weather.
To reflect the color of the shoes, I wore a heart necklace. I don't know where it's from. My sister let me have it.

I also wore my studded Gap belt to keep my pants up. I love the combination of these colors.
The blazer has my first two initals! It was meant to be!
This pair of flatforms are by the brand Born. The shoes are very comfortable, and have a little extra arch support. I love the color, which is perfect for spring.
I wear my heart on my sleeve. Well, on my neck.
